Reports from the International Women in Coffee Alliance (IWCA) Chapters and the UN Gender Equity Index suggest that women are often underrepresented the most in equatorial coffee growing nations. They are frequently not given an equal voice in commercial decision making as well as financial matters. However in recent years, women have been encouraged and empowered to take up land ownership and manage their own coffee production, and with the support of groups like IWCA, Café Femeninio and the Mujeres Productoras Program, have been able to successfully build a business and livelihood for themselves and their families.

We are so excited to announce that we were given the chance to be part of the auction where we placed a bid of $23 per kg which we were successful in winning the auction and it bring us so much joy to know to all proceed’s raised goes directly back into the community to support the women farmers of the Mujeres Productoras (Women Producer Program).  We were able to secure 5  x 69kg bags of natural processed coffee from this fantastic program.

GTNay is a coffee producing organisation made up of eight rural societies totalling 600 individual farmers. The community of La Yerba, situated at the base of a dormant volcano Cerro San Juan, is home to GTNay’s ASTAL Society, with 14 women producers of the 36 total farmers. The society of ASTAL receives, separates, and processes coffee cherries from its women producers to create their exclusive microlots. Because of their hard work and dedication, they receive a $0.05/lb premium for their Mujeres Productoras certified microlots.
