Kenya Gathaithi AA Washed Filter - Single Origin.

Gathaithi Farmers’ Cooperative Society was registered under the cooperative society act of 2000. It was formerly part of the Giant Tetu Coffee Farmers Society. This cooperative has only one factory – Gathaithi; 160 km north of Nairobi, you will find it sandwiched between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare ranges, an ideal location for coffee production. In addition, the soil surrounding the region is richly red volcanic soil; infused with all the mineral and organic goodness necessary for coffee plants to thrive.

During harvest, perfectly ripe cherry is hand picked daily and delivered to the Gathaithi wet mill the very same day. Cherry is sorted, pulped, and fermented overnight to break down the sugars. The coffee then travels through channels to the soaking tank where the coffee is carefully cleaned, soaked and spread out on the raised drying tables. Time on the drying tables depends on climate, can take from 7 to 15 days in total with Continuous sorting and hand turning of the parchment taking place throughout the process.

Kenyan AA lots are always the most expensive of any harvest. Refering to the larger scale of bean Screen sizes (17-18.5) we’ve found them to be the most consistent in terms of roasting & taste in the cup throughout the season.
