About This Single Origin Rwandan Espresso.
Purchasing a coffee linked to a single producer in Rwanda is unusual & we are fortunate to be able to offer this exceptional lot from Anastase Mudaheranwa. Typically, the coffees from Rwanda can be tracked back to a washing station or group of farmers however most producers in Rwanda do not possess enough land or coffee trees to generate enough quantity for an exportable lot size. In this case, it is possible due to the size of Anastase’s farm which is 1.05 hectares. Anastase sells & delivers cherry to Buf Coffee, which owns its own dry mill & therefore process small lots individually; minimising costs & maintaining high-quality standards from cherry delivery to the washing station; all the way to export.
This coffee was processed at Nyarusiza washing station, established in 2003 and the first of Buf’s washing stations, servicing around 700 local producers. The washing station is located in the high, rugged mountains of Rwanda’s Southern Province. Quality control and day-to-day operations at Nyarusiza are overseen by the station manager, Celestine Uwizeyimana, assisted by the Head of Quality Control, Eugenie Kanakuze. Together, they make sure that the coffee is harvested & processed with care while maintaining production standards. Nyarusiza typically employs 60 seasonal workers during peak harvest & five permanent positions. At the end of each season, any surplus profits are shared with the producers & washing station manager
