Rwandan coffee is typically produced by hundreds or even thousands of individual farmers whose lots are combined for processing. Twitezimbere is a rare and special example of a Rwandan coffee that’s traceable to a small group of producers.
The Twitezimbere group was formed when some 32 farmers got together and decided to process and market their coffees as a separate lot. The name of the group roughly translates to ‘we work together for development’ in the local Kinyarwanda language.
During the harvest season, the group’s members share resources and labour. They deliver their hand-picked cherries to the Remera washing station, where the coffee is meticulously wash-processed.
We feel very lucky to have this coffee on offer. It’s tropical, sweet and complex, and it makes for easy everyday drinking.
