We’re always pleased to welcome a new Ethiopian coffee to our offering, and we’re particularly excited about this complex and flavourful natural processed coffee from the Sidamo region. Expect fruity notes - apricot, strawberry, and tropical fruits - along with coconut, cocoa and vanilla with a winey acidity. 


SINGLE ORIGIN ESPRESSO COFFEE DESCRIPTION

Generally when we think of Ethiopian coffees, the classic washed coffees typical of this region spring to mind - all delicate florals and tea with citrus acidity. However, we are noticing that naturally processed Ethiopian coffees are becoming increasingly popular with our customers, and this outstanding coffee from Sidamo is a shining example of exactly what we love about them.

Sourced through our longstanding partners at Langdon Coffee Merchants, this coffee hails from Sidamo. This region of Ethiopia is known for its rich vegetation, ample rainfall, optimal coffee growing temperatures and incredibly fertile soil. This particular microlot was grown on the slopes of the Shanta Golba Mountain, at an astonishing elevation of 2260-2360 masl.

Coffees grown at high altitude typically display deeper flavours and more pronounced acidity. At high altitude, the lower temperatures lead to an extended maturation time for the coffee cherries, which allows the bean a longer time to produce the sugars, acids and prominent origin characteristics that lead to a high quality, interesting and tasty cup.

Typically, coffee growers in Ethiopia have small farms, and deliver their coffee cherries to local washing stations for processing. This coffee was produced by Keramo washing station, which is owned by brothers Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo, through their exporting company Daye Bensa. Keramo currently receives coffee from 391 smallholders. Farmers in this region are known for the detailed attention they pay to picking, selecting only the ripest cherries. They therefore typically receive a comparatively high price for their coffees.

This microlot was naturally processed and displays a clean, sweet and complex profile. Expect fruity notes - apricot, strawberry, and tropical fruits - along with coconut, cocoa and vanilla with a winey acidity.
