Ethiopian coffee fans rejoice! We are proud to release a new Ethiopian coffee in our collection, the Ethiopia Tega & Tula Organic Limu, sourced through our Green Coffee Partner, Cafe Imports.

Our coffee actually comes from a single farm, Tega and Tula Specialty Coffee Farm, found in the district of Gibo, in Keffa, Ethiopia.You can expect a juicy, smooth, and well-rounded cup with notes of blueberry, peach, honey, jasmine, and caramel.

Single Origin Coffee Description

As with all of our single-origin coffees, the story behind this micro-lot is fascinating and takes you further away from the renowned coffee-producing areas such as Yirgacheffe, Sidamo, and Harrar. 

Our coffee actually comes from a single farm, Tega & Tula Specialty Coffee Farm, named after two nearby villages, located in the district of Gibo, in Keffa, Ethiopia. The 500-hectare pair of farms are nestled among the wild forest coffee of the famous Keffa zone of Ethiopia, where some say the first Arabica plants most likely sprouted and spread. 

The farm was established in 2000 by Ahadu Woubhset. Ahadu is a former chief operations officer of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange. With other partner-investors, he saw the potential behind Ethiopian specialty coffee and wanted to build a model coffee farm that focuses on quality coffee and the quality of life for the community living around the farm. 

This noble dream manifests into Tega and Tula Coffee Farm. Ahadu renovated the farmland and has nearly 400 hectares planted with coffee, carefully separating the lots by variety and a particular location and topographic conditions. He also invested in better drying techniques and technology.

More importantly, Ahadu trains and pays his picker considerably better than the local average, leading to longtime relationships with employees who happen to be Ahadu’s neighbours. Now, the farm has become an inseparable part of the local economy, employing many locals and purchasing and processing coffees from small nearby farms.  

Our coffee comes from a particular block called Gera. It’s a 12.46-hectare subplot located in the Tega farm, planted with the coffee plants with the largest seeds and shaded by avocados. The varieties of the coffee plants are 74110, 74112, and Bunawashi. All of them were developed to be resistant to diseases. 

For this micro-lot, ripe coffee cherries are sorted before being thrown into a de-pulping machine, where the outer parts are removed. The seeds are then transferred into a water tank and left for about 18-24 hours to ferment, before being taken out and left to dry.

The final cup is unquestionably delicious. It is juicy, smooth, and well-rounded with notes of blueberry, peach, honey, jasmine, and caramel.
