ABOUT THE PRODUCER
The Izuba washing station is located in the small area of Runinya, Kayanza district, Northern Burundi. Izuba is an all-female producer association, with a total of 454 contributors, operated by UK based social enterprise Raw Material.
Raw Material supports the local producers by serving as quality guidance to the station manager and providing access to the specialty market through the exportation of green coffee, which otherwise might not find its way to buyers prepared to pay premiums for quality, such as Seven Seeds. Higher cherry prices incentivise the implementation of better practices which in turn create a sustainable way of living for producers involved in these projects.
Izuba is a Kirundi word, translating to 'sun', Ishurwe meaning 'flower'. Both translations perfectly suit the flavour profile of this coffee, with its plump sweetness and notes of ripe fruit and delicate white flowers. A rustic, spiced profile adds a level of complexity. We have roasted this lot for filter brewing to showcase the delicate nature of this coffee.
