Getuya Coffee: A Taste of Kirinyaga's Rich Vibes

Meet Getuya Coffee, straight outta the Kirinyaga region in Central Kenya, where the Getuya Coffee Factory has been running the show since 1964. Managed by the Mwirua Farmers Cooperative Society, this spot gets cherry deliveries from 900 local smallholder legends who know how to grow some serious coffee.

The process is tight—cherries get depulped as soon as they arrive, then they chill in underwater fermentation for 15 to 24 hours. After that, they get double-washed, soaked in fresh water, and dried out on metal tables for 6 to 7 days. This whole setup keeps the flavours pure and on point.

Kirinyaga's got the goods: rich volcanic soil, heaps of rain (about 1270 mm a year), and rivers flowing everywhere. It’s a prime spot for smallholders and co-ops to grow some of Kenya’s most fruit-forward coffees, and Getuya Coffee is the real deal.

With vibes of pink grapefruit, cherry, and caramel, Getuya Coffee’s got that bold, bright flavour that’s all Kirinyaga. Whether you’re pulling shots for espresso or brewing up a filter, this coffee brings a taste of Kenya’s best to your cup. Cheers to that!
