Gathaithi Coffee Factory is part of the Gathaithi Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Nyeri County. Established in 1967, it draws on around 1,656 active members — smallholders working typical half-acre plots between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare ranges, on rich red volcanic soils with cool temperatures and roughly 1,100mm of annual rainfall.
Cherries are selectively handpicked at peak ripeness and delivered to the wet mill the same day. After sorting, the coffee is pulped, fermented overnight, washed, soaked and dried on raised beds for 7 to 15 days with regular turning and hand sorting — producing the clean, vibrant clarity and structure Nyeri is known for.
