Cherry and almond with a caramel sweetness

Origin: Uchumachi, Caranavi, Bolivia
Variety: Caturra
Process: washed (72hr ferment)
Producer: The Mamani Family (René and Nicolasa, Juan and Juana)
Relationship: since 2009

The Mamani family is a well-known and influential coffee-producing family in Uchumachi, a small, remote settlement in the heart of Bolivia’s Caranavi Province. This delicious microlot was grown by Juana and Juan Carlos Mamani and René and Nicolasa Mamani on their neighbouring farms.

The Mamanis work closely with each other to offer support and share resources and labour during the busy harvest period. Together, they’ve established best agricultural practices, and they now share their knowledge with other local producers, helping them institute better farming practices so they can improve their coffee quality and fetch more sustainable prices.

The family’s farms in Uchumachi are located 1500–1670 metres above sea level. This elevation helps ensure a slow maturation of the coffee cherries, which allows sugars to develop more fully and evenly, resulting in beautifully sweet, clean and complex coffees like this one.
