Ricardo Zelaya tasted his first Gesha in 2008 and was so taken with it that he tracked down seeds via a friend at Panama's Finca La Esmeralda, planting them on the highest ground of his family's Santa Clara estate in Antigua.
A fourth-generation coffee grower, he tends the trees meticulously on Antigua's mineral-rich volcanic soils, drying the cherries on patios and then raised beds under greenhouse cover. Market Lane has bought Ricardo's Gesha lots every year since his first harvest in 2013, drawn to their florals, tropical fruit acidity and silky texture.
